“Da piccola ero ai giardini con la mia famiglia e stavo mangiando un toast.
A un certo punto è arrivata un’ape minuscola che si è infilata dritta nel mio panino, ha acchiappato il prosciutto, ed è volata via. Nessuno ti insegna mai come reagire quando un’ape scappa via con il tuo pranzo, e così siamo rimasti a lungo a guardare questa fetta rosa di prosciutto volante mentre mentre si allontanava tra gli alberi, galleggiando come una barchetta nell’aria.
Era una giornata bellissima: c’era il sole, l’aria era mobile e fresca, c’erano le papere nel laghetto. A volte sono cose piccole come questa a farci accorgere, e ricordare, di quando siamo felici. A queste cose piccole (che volano, che accadono) ho pensato, disegnando le tavole di questo calendario.”

“As a child I was at the gardens with my family and was eating a sandwich.
Suddenly a tiny bee came along and crawled right into my sandwich, caught a the ham, and flew away. No one ever teaches you how to react when a bee runs off with your lunch, and so we stood for a long time watching this pink slice of flying ham as it flew off into the trees, floating like a little boat in the air.
It was a beautiful day: it was sunny, the air was mobile and fresh, there were ducks in the pond. Sometimes it is small things like this that make us notice, and remember, when we are happy. I thought of these small things (that fly, that happen), while drawing the spreads for this calendar.”
